GENSOLVETM STRIPPING AGENTS REMOVE TOUGH POLYMERS FROM METAL, CERAMIC AND PLASTIC

GenSolve Strippers Work at Low Temperature on a Wide Range of Sealants, Adhesives and Coating Without Damaging the Substrate

Parsippany, New Jersey, August 01, 2001 - A new of family of four industrial stripping agents from General Chemical Corporation -- GenSolveTM High-Performance Stripping Agents -- removes tenacious polymers from metal, ceramic and plastic substrates. They are effective at relatively low temperatures with sealants, adhesives, coatings made of silicone, polysulfide, polythioether, novalak resin, acrylics and other polymers.

Unlike strippers that work by dissolving materials, the GenSolve line reacts with and breaks down polymers so they can be rinsed away. This offers significant advantages over other removal methods. Silicone and polysulfide, for instance, bond deeply into metals and are generally removed by mechanical methods that can damage the underlying substrate. GenSolve acts on polymers chemically to clean metal without damage.

GenSolve strippers can solve many maintenance problems. For instance, they simplify the process of finding leaks by giving crews quick access to leak-prone areas beneath and around seals. They also allow crews to remove red silicone sealant from around passenger windows and replace it with polysulfide and to remove coolant tubes held in place by silicone on jet engine stator blades.

GenSolve strippers wet and penetrate even microscopic, hard-to-reach areas. After removing a polymer, they suspend it to prevent redeposition and enable easy rinsing. They can be sprayed, wiped or used in immersion cleaning systems, and do not react with such metals as copper, iron, aluminum, zinc and titanium. The members of this stripper family offer a range of selectivities, reactivities. hydrophobic-hydrophilic properties, and abilities to dissolve organics. Specific products in the line are:

  • GenSolveTM 320 Silicone RTV Coating and Sealant Stripper, which works on room-temperature vulcanizing silicone coatings, residues and sealants.
  • GenSolveTM 530 Coating and Polysulfide Sealant Stripper, which removes a wide range of polymer coatings and residues, e.g., polysulfide, novolak resin, rosin, polythioether and acrylics.
  • GenSolveTM 540 Silicone Stripper GenSolve 540 stripper, which is an aggressive and fast-acting agent for removing silicone from metals.
  • GenSolveTM 550 Silicone Stripper, which removes a broad range of silicone products, including relatively dense silicone molding compounds.
