Gen+Ion
Introduction:
Gen+Ion retention aids and drainage aids are a family of specially formulated, polyaluminum hydroxychloride-based products designed for paper machines operating in the pH range 6.0-7.5. Relatively small amounts of dissolved or near-colloidal cellulose degradation products can impair drainage. Coagulation of these anionic products and their deposition onto fiber surfaces greatly enhances drainage. Gen-Ion, a cationic polymer, effectively sweeps the system on anionics, flocculating fillers and fines to the pulp surface. This improves drainage and first pass retention by opening up the sheet, and helps reduce two-sidedness in the paper. Combining these functional benefits also increases suction box efficiency and keeps the felts cleaner. The high cationic charge and microfloc particles produced by Gen+Ion entrap pitch particles on the fiber before the agglomerate and cause runnability and dirt problems. Increased retention results in much cleaner white water and a cleaner paper machine. The effect is carried through to the mill effluent, and helps to reduce suspended solids and COD. Because Gen+Ion has a high affinity for fiber, residual aluminum discharge will be minimal. Product Description:
Gen+Ion retention and drainage aids are aqueous solutions of proprietary polyaluminum hydroxychloride-based compounds. They are amber colored, clear to slightly turbid liquids.
